“Joy”

The Grateful Dead and Phish never did it for me.  While blasphemy on “4:20″, marijuana  never really did it for me, and I have always been unable to separate the herb from both those bands.  The songs I did enjoy were often the ones most reviled by the band’s fan bases.  Sorry Deadheads, “Touch of Grey” is a tiny bit of musical brilliance.  And “Contact” is pretty special on the Phish side of things…

And so I went on blissfully ignorant of what was in both band’s catalogs until last year.  I was prepping for 13.1.1 I asked my brother for some Pearl Jam to help with my training regimen.  He came through with the PJ, and in the process I fell in love with the band’s “Backspacer” album.  Those songs are a staple of any training run.

But the coup de grace of the music sent was a mix CD that featured “For You”, “Walking in Memphis”, and “The Way It Is” by Bruce Hornsby and the Range.  It was not until recently that I embraced songs 4 and 5, “Backwards Down the Number Line” and “Joy” by Phish.

The two songs have been on an endless loop, especially during the past week.  The tension of negotiating a purchase price for a house has left me in need of a reset.  Trey and Co. have provided that in spades.
